LAUREN SLAYTON MS RD
Lauren Slayton MS RD received her undergraduate degree from Tulane University where she graduated cum laude with honors in Sociology. It was here, amidst party central, that she first realized the challenge of balancing work and play, healthy and indulgent. She completed her Masters degree in Clinical Nutrition at New York University. Prior to opening Foodtrainers, Lauren worked at St Luke’s-Roosevelt obesity research unit and developed a nutrition program for the Equinox fitness clubs. These positions provided Lauren both clinical and counseling experience and in the fall of 2001 Lauren opened Foodtrainers.
Lauren conducts frequent nutrition lectures and webinars on topics ranging from "Trimming your Travel" to "Dude Foods". She has written for and been quoted in articles for many websites, magazines and television programs, including: Allure, In Style, Cooking Light, Harper’s Bazaar, Self, Whole Living, WebMD, The New York Post, John Stewart’s Daily Show, ABC’s Eyewitness News, The Early Show, Fox News, Good Morning America and The Today Show. Lauren pens (or types) the Foodtrainers' blog and is the author of the upcoming book The Little Book of Thin (Perigee 2014).
Lauren is an avid runner and skier. Her favorite fruits are blackberries and pears, current favorite vegetable (so hard to pick!) is kohlrabi and favorite splurge is cheese from the Cowgirl Creamery. Lauren lives in New York City with her husband Marc, sons Myles and Weston and her beloved Vitamix.
CAROLYN BROWN MS RD
Carolyn Brown MS RD completed her masters in clinical nutrition at New York University and holds her undergraduate degree from Tulane University in psychology. While traveling in South America and Southeast Asia, she was introduced to new foods and cultures, sparking an interest in cuisine that eventually led her down the nutrition path. Carolyn gained experience in several nutrition specialty areas including weight management, pediatric and adolescent medicine, cardiac heath and oncology while at NewYork-Presbyterian hospital. Carolyn is passionate about community education. She has nutrition experience teaching at New York City Greenmarkets and working at a private school in Manhattan.
Carolyn is a weekly contributor to WebMD’s Real Life Nutrition blog and the nutrition expert for their Food and Cooking community. She has been quoted and written for many websites, television programs and other publications including the TODAY show, FOX, health.com, CBS news, WebMD, Refinery29, Cosmopolitan, AM New York, and the New York Daily News.
Carolyn wasn’t always a total nutrition nerd. She battled with the freshman 15 and a love-hate (or hate-hate) relationship with the elliptical machine herself. Now she is a certified yoga guide, and loves to mix it up with running, snowboarding and spinning. Carolyn's favorite fruit is pineapple, favorite veggies are in season cherry tomatoes, and favorite splurge is a homemade almond butter cup.
JOANNA LI RD
Joanna Li said her dream job involved sampling food and so she is the head honcho of the Foodtrainers’ store and contact person for anything food-product related. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in nutrition and dietetics from New York University and completed her dietetic internship at Massachusetts General Hospital. She also trained under the dietitian at Rouge Tomate restaurant.
Joanna has wide-ranging nutrition experience from developing menus for college campus dining facilities to creating food allergen training programs for food service employees She leads supermarket tours and cooking workshops for the non-profit Cooking Matters. Joanna’s nutrition counseling has focused on weight loss, diabetes and celiac disease.
Joanna enjoys running and Zumba. Her favorite fruit is pineapple, favorite vegetable is zucchini (she’s aware this is technically a fruit) and favorite splurge is pistachio gelato.
